Reactive power is measured in kVAR, while capacitors are measured in farads; these are both SI units. The capacitance C(F) measured in microfarads is equivalent to 159235000 times the reactive power Q(kVAR) measured in kVAR and is then divided by the product of the frequency F(Hz) measured in Hertz and the voltage V measured in volts. Therefore, the formula for estimating the value of the capacitor based on the kVAR can be stated as,

kVAR to Farad Formula: C = 159.155 x Q (kVAR) ÷ f x V2
